Medication Management

Medication management is an ongoing service focused on evaluating how psychiatric medications are working for an individual. The provider may assess effectiveness, side effects, dosage, adherence, and whether adjustments or changes to the treatment plan may be appropriate.

Individuals may seek a medication management appointment for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Experiencing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, mood changes, irritability, difficulty sleeping, or changes in concentration
  • Having concerns about emotional or behavioral changes that are affecting daily life
  • Beginning psychiatric treatment or considering whether medication may be appropriate
  • Checking the effectiveness of a current psychiatric medication
  • Experiencing unwanted or concerning medication side effects
  • Feeling that current symptoms are not adequately controlled
  • Needing a medication dosage adjustment or other treatment-plan change
  • Coordinating psychiatric care with therapy, primary care, or other healthcare services

What To Expect

Once you connect with our Psychiatric Intake Coordinators, you will complete introductory paperwork, consent forms, and may complete additional assessments. The Psychiatric Intake Coordinator will review our policies, discuss insurance and costs, and schedule all appointments.

During a medication management appointment, the provider may begin by reviewing current medications, including dosage and how consistently they are being taken. Together, you will discuss benefits or concerns related to the medication as well as any changes in symptoms over time. Through this, the provider will be able to determine whether the current medication regimen should continue or whether changes may be appropriate. Various treatment options will be recommended in consideration of potential side effects and other concerns you may have. This collaborative process coordinates care with other relevant providers as follow-up appointments are made to monitor progress.

Medication Management can help:

  • Establish or clarify a mental health diagnosis when clinically appropriate

  • Monitor whether medications are providing the intended benefits

  • Identify and address medication-related concerns or side effects

  • Make informed decisions about their treatment in collaboration with their provider

  • Track changes in symptoms and overall functioning over time

  • Develop a treatment plan that can be adjusted as the client’s needs change

  • Coordinate medication treatment with therapy and other supportive services

  • Receive ongoing monitoring and support as part of their mental health care

Medication Management appointments provide the opportunity to discuss mental health concerns, receive a comprehensive assessment, and develop or maintain an individualized treatment plan. During these appointments, providers evaluate symptoms, review medications when applicable, monitor progress and side effects, and discuss treatment options. The goal is to support ongoing mental health care and help individuals work collaboratively with their provider toward improved symptom management and daily functioning.
